The ancient town of Llantresedd is home to two shops owned by the wealthy Jac Dekker: the upmarket Ruby Street store, which sells prestige dragons at premium prices, and the backstreet Toadstool Lane store, which sells derisory second quality dragons.
Caron, a young teenager, works at Toadstool Lane as a junior sales girl. She has messed up at school owing to an unwillingness to kowtow to authority and been thrown out of home by her bullying father as a result. Since the sales job entitles her to a company flat, she cannot afford to mess up again. Despite her misgivings about the hopeless state of the dragons she is forced to sell and the dubious nature of some of the people who buy them, Caron does her best to fit in. There is one dragon which she particularly bonds with, having a semblance of life in its eyes, unlike all the others. But her attachment to this creature leads her a dark and dangerous world where she must risk everything to save the dragon she loves.
Second Quality Dragon is available at many retailers including Amazon.
